Dr. Michael Crane has taught piano both individually and in group settings for over 25 years at fine institutions around the country, including USC and at the Third Street Music School Settlement in New York City, an institution with a rich history and the highest reputation for excellence in music education for over one hundred years. In addition to his work as a faculty member of these fine schools, he has always maintained a private studio.
Dr. Crane is a proud member of The California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT); the state affiliate of the Music Teachers’ National Association (MTNA). The programs offered by CAPMT afford students valuable opportunities and experiences including performances, state and national competitions, and professional evaluations, including the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) certificate program. Please see more about these organizations and the opportunities they provide on the page CAPMT / MTNA. Please note that participation in CAPMT or RCM programs are not required for students.
During his years of teaching, Dr. Crane has enjoyed working with students of all levels and ability. He’s also had the privilege of working with students representing a wide spectrum of socio-economic, socially and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
For students who are striving for a high level of achievement and mastery of their instrument, MCPS offers the same level of education and opportunities as many of the pre-college programs at major conservatories such as the Colburn School in Los Angeles and Juilliard in New York City while charging tuition that is on average 68% less than these institutions. MCPS also maintains the same expertise and dedication for students who simply want to study music for their own enjoyment for whom a more relaxed approach is best. As a teacher, it is important for me to recognize these individual characteristics and to cater to each student’s needs and preferences.
